Marvel Stock

Marvel Stock Price and Symbol

What is Marvel’s stock price, and are they publicly traded? Investors cannot purchase shares of Marvel because they are a private company. Disney (NYSE: DIS) and Hasbro (NASDAQ: HAS) are publicly traded comic book companies that traders can invest in.

From Iron Man, Captain America, and Spider-Man, your superheroes are growing up. Today, everywhere you look, you can spot them in pop culture. If you’re a parent, they are likely to be found on your child’s lunch boxes and bedroom walls.

Chart by TradingView

Marvel Comics, home to our trusted superheroes, has taken over entertainment and pop culture. But did you know there’s a way Marvel can supercharge your portfolio? And no, it’s not through Marvel stock but our lovely friends at Disney. Who doesn’t want to own Marvel comics stock? I mean, think about it. It’s almost like you could be part of a universe that stormed the world.

All of a sudden, it was cool to be a comic book nerd. It’s also a good excuse to talk comics in our live trading room. The movies are so fun and engaging…even those who haven’t entered the Marvel universe through reading the “funny books,” as my grandmother used to call them, are watching.

Marvel Stock Owners

Who owns Marvel, and are you looking into Marvel stock? You’re somewhat out of luck. In 2019, the company with the trademark Micky Mouse ears bought Marvel Entertainment for $4.9 billion. Yes, you read that right, billion!!! Disney didn’t get it all, as Marvel previously sold film rights for their popular superheroes to avoid insolvency.

Either way, it’s a bit of a complex web with Sony owning the film rights to Spider-Man (and related characters), yet they sit in Disney’s Marvel films. We also have the X-men residence at Fox, with the Hulk at Marvel and Universal.

I know this isn’t very clear, but it doesn’t matter. If you’re reading between the lines, chances are you figured out you can’t buy Marvel stock directly because it isn’t self-owned.

Marvel comics stock is controlled by the parent company Marvel Entertainment, which the Walt Disney Company owns. As you probably already know, Disney is a wildly successful blue-chip stock in many portfolios.

HIGHLIGHTS

Disney Is a Force to Be Reckoned With

Disney has been a publicly traded stock since 1957, with the first stock sold at $13.88 per share. Hold your breath for this one…if you had invested $1,000 in Disney’s IPO, your stock would be worth over $3 million today!

On March 20, 2019, Disney purchased the film and TV assets held by 21st Century Fox for $71.3 billion. Fox’s rights to the characters reverted to Disney, and they joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Overall, this marked one of the most significant media mergers ever, not to mention the first time a major movie studio has ceased to exist as an independent entity.

Not only is Disney involved in film and TV, but their hands are in the streaming service pie. On November 12, Disney launched its new subscription service, Disney +, and reached 28.6 million user signups as of February 3.

Disney ($DIS) TipRanks Stock Forecast Report 3/24

Disney Fundamentals

Disney has some pretty solid fundamentals worth digging into. This report is courtesy of Stock Rover and was reported in late April. For the most up-to-date research report, check out StockRover.

Since launching, the Disney+ app has had 41 million downloads with alleged sales of $97.2 million. Users get content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Star Wars, and National Geographic for a small monthly fee.

But in my opinion, the most compelling perk for Disney+ is that it will be the exclusive home to all Disney Studios films. Yes, all of them. This includes the Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel, Frozen 2, Toy Story 4, and Star Wars: Episode IX, not to mention remakes of Aladdin and The Lion King.

I’d be remiss not to mention you get access to all the titles from Fox, like The Sound of MusicThe Princess Bride, and much more. In total, Disney+ will feature over 7,500 television episodes and 500 films.

Investing in Disney

If you want to invest in the superhuman realm of Marvel properties – think comic books, animated TV shows, and their upcoming movies, buy stock in Disney ($DIS).

On the whole, Disney has an incredibly powerful business model. Disney’s stock trades at an impressive 16.5 times earnings.

Coupled with great earnings, the company’s financial performance last year was stronger than the previous year. Moreover, Disney’s free cash flow is strong, with the stock’s price-FCF ratio at 19.5.

At the time of writing, Disney is worth $156 billion. And, with the recent acquisition of Fox, the future is bright.

Other Comic Stock Symbols

  1. Marvel Comics or Marvel Studios doesn’t have a stock symbol, but they are owned by Disney who does.
  2. Buy shares of Marvel stock, essentially buy purchasing $DIS
  3. Avengers stock (toys, mainly): $HAS (Hasbro)
  4. Lego Themed Movies (with Marvel characters): $HAS (Hasbro)
  5. Video Games: $SQNXF (Square Enix)

If investing in Disney isn’t your thing, why don’t you check out some other companies? Marvel lets companies “borrow” the rights to their characters.

Have you seen Avengers-themed everything for the past ten years? What about LEGO-themed characters? Hasbro (HAS) has seen a sizable chunk of its revenue from the comic book brand.

If video games are your passion, why don’t you take a look at the Japanese company Square Enix (SQNXF)? This could be your chance to invest in an Avengers game set for release in a few years.

Final Thoughts: Marvel Stock

If you think you can’t afford to purchase Marvel Comics stock by purchasing Disney stock at under $100 a share, think again. Options trading is an incredibly popular and fabulous way to trade big-ticket stocks. But you need to learn the ropes before you do that.

With enough wise trades and maybe a few gamma rays, there’s a chance you could reach Tony Stark’s levels of wealth. We can show you how in our free options trading course for beginners.
