1. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL)
Apple designs a wide variety of consumer electronic devices, including smartphones (iPhone), tablets (iPad), PCs (Mac), smartwatches (Apple Watch), and TV boxes (Apple TV), among others. The iPhone makes up the majority of Apple’s total revenue these days. In addition, Apple offers various services, such as Apple Music, iCloud, Apple Care, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple Card, Apple Pay, and many others.
Apple’s products run internally developed software and semiconductors, and the firm is well known for its integration of hardware, software, and services. Apple’s products are distributed online, through company-owned stores, and third-party retailers. The company generates about 40% of its revenue from the Americas, with the remainder earned internationally.
Dividend yield: 0.57%, $0.24 quarterly
2. Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT)
Microsoft is one of the largest publicly traded companies in the world, with a market cap exceeding $3T. One of its flagship products is Microsoft Office, a suite of productivity applications that includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The company’s operating system, Windows, powers the majority of personal computers worldwide. Microsoft also offers cloud-based services such as Microsoft 365 and Azure. Its portfolio includes the Xbox gaming console, Blizzard Entertainment, LinkedIn, GitHub, and Microsoft Copilot, one of ChatGPT’s biggest competitors.
Microsoft has many diversified revenue streams, but some are more important than others. Its Office products and services and Azure Cloud Services are the company’s biggest revenue components and are growing faster than the others. The company is well-positioned to keep growing and maintaining its leadership in the tech sector.
Dividend yield: 0.71%, $0.75 quarterly
3. NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA)
NVIDIA is a leading semiconductor company that has experienced exponential growth in recent years, driven primarily by its dominance in the AI chip market. Its stock price increased by more than 1,770% in the last five years. Tcompany’sy’s data centers, accelerated computing platforms, networking solutions, and other software services account for 77% of its revenues. It has grown by more than 200%. YoNVIDIA’s graphic segment isn’t as important in revenue or growth but remains an important part of its business, especially in the gaming and professional visualization markets.
NVIDIA’s dominance in the AI chip market is due to its strong partnerships with major technology companies (Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Dell, Lenovo, and more) and continued investment in cutting-edge technologies. Every year, it’s revenue and financial performance strengthen. I wouldn’t be surprised if it keeps growing and reaches new heights in the quarters and years to come.
Dividend yield: 0.018%, $0.04 quarterly
4. Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ: AVGO)
Broadcom is also a leading semiconductor and infrastructure software company. Its growth may not be as impressive as NVIDIA’s, but it remains far superior to your average stock. The company’s semiconductor segment represents 79% of its total revenue. Broadcom is making a lot of progress thanks to its AI technology. One of its major focuses is to expand its software business to new heights in the upcoming years. As the demand for chips increases, Broadcom’s technology will be more in demand.
One of Broadcom’s major advantages compared to NVIDIA is its dividend distribution. The company generates billions in free cash flow, which it uses to spoil its shareholders. Its stock dividend has grown from $0.44 per share in 2011 to $5.25 per share in the most recent quarter.
Dividend yield: 1.57%, $5.25 quarterly
5. Oracle Corporation (NYSE: ORCL)
Oracle is one of the largest enterprise technology companies thanks to its software, Oracle Database. The company’s cloud services and license support segment accounts for 77% of its total revenue, with a strong 13% YoY growth. On the other hand, Oracle’s cloud infrastructure business provides less revenue but is growing 66% YoY.
Like many of its peers, it is shifting its focus to AI technologies. However, Oracle has disappointed many analysts. Its license revenue has decreased YoY, and its cloud and AI business hasn’t provided the expected results. If it can jumpstart its AI segment, you can expect stronger results in the upcoming quarters.
Dividend yield: 1.29%, $0.40 quarterly
6. Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO)
Cisco is a leading global provider of networking equipment and technology solutions. Most of its sales are generated by networking software and hardware (IoT, security, networks, and collaborations). Most of Cisco’s revenues come from the Americas (59%) and Europe (27%).
Unfortunately, Cisco is no longer the company that it once was. The company’s stock has lost 10% of its value in the last five years as it is transitioning its business model towards more recurring and predictable revenue sources. Cisco continues to invest in innovation to increase demand for its networking, security, and cloud-based solutions.
Dividend yield: 3.24%, $0.40 quarterly
7. Adobe Inc. (NASDAQ: ADBE)
We all know Adobe‘s logo from that PDF you always open, and sometimes it takes an eternity to load. Pleasantries aside, Adobe is a leading global software company that provides a wide range of digital media and digital marketing solutions. The company’s digital media segment accounts for 80% of the company’s revenue. It includes its Creative Cloud suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro.
Like most companies in the tech sector, Adobe is working to implement AI in its technology. It is developing Adobe Sensei and Firefly to generate images and automate various tasks. It is steadily incorporating various AI tools into its existing products. This should help the company distinguish itself from its competitors (Canva and Microsoft) and reaccelerate its revenue growth.
Dividend yield: n/a
8. Texas Instruments (NASDAQ: TXN)
Texas Instruments began by providing seismographic data for the petroleum industry. It has since evolved into a leading manufacturer of electronic components and devices such as semiconductors. Another example of their products is the calculator you used back in school.
Texas Instruments may be building fancy gadgets, but its stock price isn’t impressed by them. It is down around 7% in the last 12 months and has stagnated since 2021. This is due to a decline in revenue and EPS in 2023. The company is also facing increased competition and industry challenges. There may be some challenging times for the company unless it can address these issues.
Dividend yield: 3.05%, $1.30 quarterly
9. Salesforce, Inc. (NYSE: CRM)
Salesforce is a leading customer relationship management (CRM) software and services provider. The company has established itself as a dominant player in the CRM market, offering a comprehensive suite of cloud-based solutions for businesses of all sizes. The subscription and support segment, which includes cloud services, software licenses, and related technical support, represents the largest chunk of yearly revenue.
Guess what? Salesforce also has a fancy name for its AI-powered assistant, Einstein. It helps Salesforce become the CRM industry leader by delivering targeted customer engagement and personalized experiences. The company’s focus on AI and its personalized approach has helped the stock to double since the beginning of 2023.
Dividend yield: 0.53%, $0.40 quarterly
10. International Business Machines (NYSE: IBM)
IBM is a multinational technology and consulting company with a diverse portfolio of products and services. It is known for its mainframe computer systems and IT and consulting segments. Its revenues are well-segmented between software, consulting, and infrastructure.
The company is focusing on its hybrid cloud and AI technology. They are two of its most transformational products and can help clients in various applications. IBM’s AI-powered Watson platform can analyze large amounts of data in the fields of healthcare, finance, and customer service. Its strong portfolio ranks it among the top companies globally regarding revenue and brand recognition. Don’t sleep on IBM.
Dividend yield: 3.52%, $1.66 quarterly
AAPL Stock Rover Report
Covid Affect on Tech Stocks
The pandemic has positively impacted tech stocks, with companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, and Netflix seeing increased demand for their products and services. However, the technology sector is also subject to market fluctuations and competition.
Tech is one of the strongest market sectors; news can impact it greatly. Be it earnings, political news, or just a hit-piece article, stocks are at the mercy of the media. So, $ROKU, $AAPL, and $AMD are a few of the best tech stocks to trade.
Tech penny stocks have a lot of hype because of the type of sector they belong to. Technology is always changing. New and exciting innovations are coming out all the time. Again, that’s why you buy the rumor and sell the news with a tech stocks list. Hype will always be a factor in technology, which means sharp moves up and down.
We are not affiliated with nor endorse any of these companies, and nothing on this site constitutes a recommendation to buy or sell.
AAPL Chart Example
This is a daily chart of $AAPL with Fibonacci levels mapped out. It currently has a megaphone pattern overall. Inside of the megaphone is also a rising wedge pattern. It’s near the 100% Fibonacci level, so it might be due for a pullback because the price is near resistance levels. A major cup and handle breakout happened before it hit the current resistance level. There was a major falling wedge pattern that took place before the current rising wedge.
Earnings
Earnings are a funny business. Even with our technology stocks list, earnings can be tricky. So again, buy the rumor and sell the news. Earnings burn traders a lot. We’ve seen traders come in and blow up their brokerage accounts’ trading earnings. Technology stocks are no different than other sectors out there. Most traders will sell option spreads over earnings rather than buy long calls or puts because of IV Crush.
The bottom line is earnings are tricky to trade. No one knows what they will report when that fateful earnings day arrives. But you’ll probably see articles about buying from a technology stocks list before earnings, so you get a good entry. Then you buy off that tech stocks list, and the earnings might hit. But the stock still falls. As a result, we never recommend trading stocks at earnings unless you’re day trading it. Buy support and resistance, and tune out the noise.
Invesco’s QQQ is one of the oldest ETFs on the stock market. It is the top-performing large-cap growth fund and the second-most-traded ETF in the US. It holds the 100 largest non-financial companies listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange. Its top holdings include Microsoft, Apple, NVIDIA, Amazon, and other tech giants. The fund has more than doubled in the last five years. It’s hard to find a better tech ETF than QQQ.
Dividend yield: 0.60%, $2.64 quarterly
Vanguard is no stranger to successful ETFs, and VGT is no exception. Its focus is similar to QQQ, but its top 3 holdings (Microsoft, Apple, and NVIDIA) represent a larger portion of the fund. There are also more semiconductor stocks in its top 10 (Broadcom and AMD). Its performance and dividend yield have surpassed QQQ’s in the last five years. It is an ETF to consider for the technology sector.
Dividend yield: 0.69%, $3.61 quarterly
XLK holds fewer holdings (65) but has a similar distribution among its top 10 holdings. One of its advantages is a slightly higher dividend yield.
Dividend yield: 0.71%, $1.48 quarterly
IYW offers a similar approach to its fund. Most companies mentioned in the article above can be found in its top 10 holdings. Its performance in the last five years is even better than some of its peers, regardless of its lower dividend yield and higher expense ratio (0.40%).
Dividend yield: 0.35%, $0.47 quarterly
If you’re looking for a different approach to the tech sector, KWEB offers just that. Its holdings consist of Chinese-based companies in internet-related technologies. Tencent and Alibaba are among its top holdings. However, KWEB hasn’t performed very well in the last five years (-45%) due to China’s troubles with its economy and deflation. On the bright side, it offers a better dividend yield. If the Chinese economy can rebound, KWEB might look more attractive as a fund.
Dividend yield: 1.72%, $0.46 quarterly
More ETFs
The semiconductor industry is booming, and SMH is the perfect semiconductor ETF. The fund’s top holdings include NVIDIA, Broadcom, TSM, AMD, Intel, Qualcomm and more. That’s not all. In the last five years, investors have more than quadrupled their investment.
Dividend yield: 0.60%, $1.04 quarterly
ARKK is one of Cathie Wood‘s main ETFs. It is invested in ‘’disruptive technologies,” meaning they can change how the world works. Genomics, fintech, AI, robotics, and energy stocks can be found. ARKK’s top holdings include Coinbase, Tesla, Roku, Block, UiPath, CRISPR and more. This might be for you if you’re looking for something different and riskier.
Dividend yield: variable
SOXX is another semiconductor ETF consisting of 30 stocks. NVIDIA, Broadcom, and AMD are its top 3 holdings.
Dividend yield: 1.63%, $3.66 annually
FTEC offers a tech ETF similar to QQQ, IYW, and its peers. It has a similar expense ratio, dividend yield, and returns in the last five years.
Dividend yield: 0.71%, $1.11 annually
Final Thoughts: Tech Stocks List
To conclude, the tech sector holds some of the highest-performing stocks in the US. Some stocks, such as Apple and Microsoft, have been pioneers, while others have been making waves with their revolutionary technology, such as NVIDIA. If you don’t want to put all your eggs in one basket, you can diversify your holdings by investing in one of the many ETFs in this sector. Remember that it is one of the stock market’s most volatile but rewarding sectors.
